Megan Phillips - Partnering for Prevention

Substance use and mental disorders can make daily activities difficult and impair a person’s ability to work, interact with family, fulfill major life functions, and fully participate in one’s community. Building healthy communities takes a village, and Oakland Community Health Network (OCHN) has been partnering with The Alliance to do just that.
As the public behavioral health system for Oakland County, Michigan, Oakland Community Health Network (OCHN) leads a provider network that services approximately 29,000 individuals that live with an intellectual/developmental disability, mental health concerns, and/or substance use disorders. OCHN is proud of the relationships we have built with our substance use prevention network and in partnership with The Alliance, provides services to educate and support our community to prevent the use and misuse of various substances.
“OCHN has the pleasure of holding a sustained and meaningful relationship with The Alliance as one of our prevention providers,” said OCHN’s Director of Substance Use Disorder Services, Megan Phillips. For over 20 years, the Alliance has provided needed services to our community, and we’re looking forward to seeing the work they do in the next 20,” added Phillips.
The Alliance utilizes conversation, education, and outreach to help influence adults, and young people to live a healthy lifestyle, free of alcohol and drug abuse.
Although there are many notable achievements over their 20 years of service to the community, we’ll highlight just a few in honor of their anniversary. Most recently, The Alliance worked diligently to visit retailers across Oakland County that sell tobacco, vape products, and other nicotine products to reduce tobacco access to youth in retail stores.
As a result, Oakland County received a 91% rating for the annual Synar study. Also notably, The Alliance celebrated the 100th installment of a Save A Life Station in Oakland County in March of 2024! These stations are installed in high-risk areas and provide vital and lifesaving overdose prevention resources to the community.
As quoted from The Alliance, together, we can build the healthy communities that we all need to thrive. Here’s to building a thriving community, and happy 20th anniversary to The Alliance!
